NOTE: You can make a
concentrated version of
Pau d' arco tea to save time and refrigerator space. I
recommend, in the evening or when it is convenient for you,
start by boiling 3 cups of Pau D' Arco tea grinds in a
gallon of water. When it has been on a slow boil for at
least 20 minutes, turn it off and let it sit to cool over
night. The tea grinds will settle to form a kind of a
pancake. Slowly pour it off into a one gallon container. If
you pour it slowly, you will not have to strain it.
Save the left over pau
d'arco tea grinds and place them into a sealed container (
tupper ware or zip lock baggie ) and freeze it until you are
ready for another batch. You can boil them twice. It is
almost as strong the second time.
This one gallon of
concentrated tea will be equal to 4 gallons of regular
strength tea. Simply strain it after it cools and pour 1/4
cup of concentrated tea into a glass and top it off (3/4
cup) with cold water, hot water, fruit juice or sweeten to
taste. The above formula is for regular strength pau d'arco
tea.
For double strength
pau d'arco tea, use
½ cup of concentrated pau d'arco tea and top off with ½ cup
of your favorite blend to taste.
